Dinner@Noodle House in Madinat

I should be in bed right now, but one of my favorite movie, Dirty Dancing, is on TV right now so I just have to stay up. Me and T had dinner with Maria and her boyfriend this evening at Noodle House....here are some of the pictures from tonight =)

Had a wonderful dinner with these lovely couple =)

Noodle@Madinat
A restaurant with asian food. Everything from some simple dim sum and spring rolls to fried rice and pad thai. The place was really busy but the service was still good, we didn't have to wait long for a table. The price was mid-range. It was hard to have a normal conversation inside the restaurant because of the bad acoustics. But the food was nice, my favorite dish is the crispy duck. We moved on to another place at the Madinat for some Shisha, dessert and coffee.

=)

Sorry for spillling your orange juice...clumsy me =S

Girls night out @ Westin Oeno bar

Got inspired from my friend Maria to blog again! So that's what I'm gonna do =) Meeting her made me realize how much I missed Dubai =) Thanks for a wonderful evening last night! We were sitting outside on the terrace and the humidity was unbearable (takes time to get used to it), but in the same time it was so nice meeting so many new faces! Didn't have time to talk to all of the ladies, but it was so much fun meeting all of them =)

The lovely and beautiful Maria =)

About Oeno@Westin
I know that there are plenty of bars and restaurants at the Westin Hotel, but I've never been there before. So I was thrilld when I realized that we are going there for our girls-night-out. Also, I've heard that there is a place that have a pizza buffé that is to die for (making a mental note that I HAVE to check it out). But for now, I've only been to Oeno Wine Bar and it's was a pretty smal but nice place. Crowded when I arrived after 9 p.m. with good mix of both men and women. They served free sparkling wine until 9 p.m, so I just missed it when I arrived, but Maria was thoughful enought to save one for me, thanks sweetie! Both me and Maria need to work the day after, so we didn't want to go too crazy, so I just ordered one more beverege to round of the evening.  It was a great place to meet up with a couple of friends having a couple of drinks. Don't know if they serve any food at Oeno Bar, so I can't tell if it's a good place for afterwork. Overall it's a pretty nice bar. Even if the Bar might not sound so special, there is somthing about the Westin Hotel itself with it's stunning facade and the complementing lighting that emphasize the luxurious atmosphere that is spectacular enought that that itself is worth a visit.

Sandstorm in Dubai

(Picture was found at google.com)

Wow...today has been a really crazy sandstormy day. Just walking from the taxi to the building made you covered in sand. And when I came home, I noticed a thin thin layer of sand (clay & silt) everywhere. Damn it, does that means more cleaning?!

Guests from Sweden!

Hi everyone!

I was looking throu my camera and found these pictures. S & J were here visiting a couple weeks ago, I was too busy to update on the blog (so sorry, about that!) But here are some pictures. Hope you enjoy it!

One step closer to go back home

Hey Everyone.
As I've written before, I'm on leave of absence at my job back in Sweden. Yesterday, I called to the Swedish company I work for and talked to my boss. I can't describe what a great feeling it is to have such a safe backup plan. We knew all along that Dubai is just a temporary place for us, and we would eventually move back to Sweden or some where else. I've made up my mind and have giving myself a deadline. I'll keep applying for jobs until the end of november. After that we'll see what happends...

Another picture from Beirut

Some pictures from Beirut

Hi everyone!
Here is my pethetic attempt to make a collage of our pictures. I wanna add so many that it would be "easier" to make a collage instead. Anyway...here they are. We had a fabulous time in Beirut. Went to the Jeita Grottos and Harissa to se the "Lady of Lebanon". Then of course we went to see the night life of Beirut.

Wow, really bad update!

Wow, I've been really really bad in updateing this blog. I know, sorry about that. Just haven't had any inspiration to write anything at all. I've just been applying for jobs and went to another "friendly chat" (aka not an official interview). And I'm starting to get tired of applying, so I think that I'm just going to enjoy the rest of my time here in Dubai before I move back home to Sweden.

The great thing here is that I've started to get to know some people down here. I love meeting new people and Dubai has actully been a great place for that. Most of them here have just recentley moved here (just like me) and are very open minded and just great to be around. I'm very lucky to have get to know them, it makes the staying here alot more enjoyable.

So, what have happend these past couple of weeks? Me and T went to Beirut for a weekend. I've so many pictures I need to upload. We have also been playing alot of tennis and golf. I'll upload some pictures or videos from the ranch. It's pretty funny!

Let me know if you wonder of anything about here in Dubai. I'll be happy to answer any questions.

Take care,
Chloe

Update, week 39!

Hey everyone!

Sorry for the lousy update. I've just been busy job hunting, but it's the weekend now so time for a little update!
As you all know, we went camping in Oman on the Eid holiday. This whole camping thing is kind of new to me. I've only camped three times before. All of them were in my teens and non them were any good experiences. But it was a long time ago, so I though that I'll give it another chance.

We bought the guide book of Oman, a tent and a gas stove and a whole bunch of food (it could be hard to find food during ramadan, that's way we brought a whole bunch of food with us). Then we took off and drove to Oman!

Here're all our packing for the trip with our trusty Dex!

Arrived to Oman at afternoon and visited the Mosque.

And we took a little tour to Old Muscat to visit the Sultan of Oman's Palace.

At night, we found a wonderful little Omani restaurant for dinner. Yes, they eat on the floor and we were thinking, if we kept ordering new dishes, could we stay the whole night?! hahaha

Then we found a place to camp. We build up our little tent, lit up our little oil lamp and pumped up our air mattress. I didn't take any pictures cause the camera was now on battery. But everything was good except that it was so freaking HOT!!! We tried to go to sleep in almost 4 hours til we realized that it wasn't going to happen. When the time was round 3 a.m. in the morning we decided to sleep in the Dex instead. Yes, I know...it was bad, but at least we had air condition! We woke up early (6a.m.), had a little of breakfast and continued our trip!

Little did we know that we were going to find this little place name: Sinkhole Park! This is such a wonderful and beautiful place! The water was such a vibrant green and clear.  Apparently, the green and blue colors are a result of the saltly sea water meeting with fresh water.  This sinkhole is about 500 meters inland and is 40 meters wide and 20 meters deep.  The sinkhole is said to connect all the way to the ocean.

We had the whole place to ourself because it was so early that no tourist has arrived yet, yeah! And the water was so refreshing! Amazing!!!

Another little suprise was the small fishes that nibble our feet. Me and T suspected that it was these fishes that some spa used to treat dead skin cells, eczema and Psoriasis. Sure enough, when we came back home we found an article about it. We did let it nibble on our feet until it got too tickley.

We ended up driving through another town name Sur. It was lunch time and there where no restaurants around. So we discreatley took out our gas stove to set it up by the beach. It was still Ramandan and you're not allowed to eat in public, but honestly, we really needed to eat! We just made some instant nudles but it felt like commiting a crime.

Then we continued our road trip to see the Green Turtles in Ras al Jinz. In our guide book it says that camping was possible by the beach for a small fee. But when we arrived to Ras al Jinz, it wan't allowed anymore because of protection of the Green Turtles, so we ended up camping at Al Naseem Tourist Camp.

This picture was taked after our Green Turtle Tour. You can see two very happy participants that saw an incredible number of Green Turtles! OMG, the baby turtles are the cutest thing ever!!!

We were not allowed to take any pictures during the tour which is understandable, the flashes disorient hatchlings and disturb the nesting turtles. But sadly there were still many ignorant tourists that didn't respect this rule.

This the hut we stayed in!

This is how it looks like inside!

Ready to drive back home to Dubai.

Last picture was taken at the Ras al Haad beach. The holes you see on the beach are turtle hatching holes.

Off to Oman!

Hi everyone!

We're going to spend the Eid weekend in Oman camping and turtle watching. I'll post some pictures when we're back. Happy Eid everyone!

Out last night!

We were out with some new friends last night, it turned out it might be some job opportunities. Let's hope so. I really do!

Tennis court...a social meeting point?!

Me and T are thinking to go to a salsa class to learn dancing and  to meet some new people! Let's face it, we won't meet new people by sitting at home having movie nights. But what we didn't know was that we already have a little social meeting point in our building? Today, when me and T played tennis. We met two other guys that thought they also booked the same time as us. It turned out that they were both Swedish and we're planing to go out together on friday! (yeah!!!)

It was such a pleasant surprise to find other young Swedish people living in the same building, both me and T were thrilled! But we were both thinking about wouldn't it be nice to find some Chinese people too? And guess what happend after our game? Four Chinese peolpe were walking toward the tennis court, the once that have booked the court after us. It turned out that they're from Hong Kong and speaks the same dialect as us (cantonese). And we are planing to hang out some time next week!

Now if only there is anyone that wants to hire me soon, that would be PERFECT!!!

Wish me luck!

Ramadan Kareem

As you all know by now, it is the month of Ramadan. It's the time to think about the ones that are not as fortune as you, so that's one of the reason why they're fasting. As a non-muslim here in Dubai, we don't really notice much difference except that working hours are shorter and that no restaurants serves food until sunset (around 7 p.m.).

There are some fast food chain that still serves take-away during the day, but it's forbidden to eat in public (except for children and pregnat women), so if you do buy take-away, you'll have to take it back home or eat in your car! (that's what we did).

But as you all can imagine, people are HUNGRY during the day. And it does shows in trafic that people are driving crazier than usual. The positive side of Ramadan is that all the major hotells are building upp huge tents to serve delicious buffé after sunset by the beach. So me and T went to Sheraton one evening and it was really festive!

Good morning sunshine !

New week, new misson. (Yes, the week starts at a sunday here in Dubai). I finished my resumes last week and this week, I'm going to visit some potential employers and register to some headhunters. Wish me luck!

The weather is nice, around 40 C (app. 104 F) but the humidity has gone down from 80 to 60% so it's a bit easier to handle. Did I tell you that it's Ramandan right now? Well it is, and I keep forgetting that. Next time I update, I'll tell you all about what effects us during Ramadan.

Until then...Salam Aleikum!

Maybe the last Virgin store in the world!

Me at the Mall of Emirates!

Dubai Home

Alright guys, this is the video you all have been waiting for. A presentation of how we live in Dubai. But, I made this for my parents. So that's why everything is in chinese (and some swedish). I've been thinking of putting subtitles in it, so if there are people out there who wants to understand what I'm saying, just send me a comment and I'll try to put in some subtitles.

Back to Dubai!

Hey my little blog!

Have been in Dubai a couple of days now and it feels great to be back. I've already unpacked, settled down and even played some tennis! Misson of the day is to rewrite my resumés to costumize them to each and every job I'm applying for. That's is what I'm up for today. Next time I update, I'll tell you all about the weather here.

Salem Aleikum!
